Area description

Barak Urbar

Health: Deserted
Wealth: Poor

This massive gate is flanked by two giant statues of dwarven warriors, each forty feet high. The last king of Ekrund spared no expenses in having these statues chiseled from the very surface of the Dragonbacks, hiring the greatest artisans of his age to realize these statues of the first and second kings of Ekrund, Ordorin and his son Grimbalki.

The statues were meant to impress the merchants which the king believed would one day visit his city from the port of Gronti Mingol. Alas, as Ekrund fell before Gronti Mingol was finished, no merchant ever laid eyes upon these gates. Now they are debased by goblins, smeared with excrement and crudely altered to resemble goblinoid features.

The gate itself was, in the heyday of Ekrund, no less impressive than the statues flanking it. Heavy steel doors standing some thirty feet tall, inscribed with golden runes which, sadly, have since been stolen. A keen observer may notice murder holes hidden in beside the gates, and galleries above the stone heads allows quarrelers to fire at any invader. These galleries provide access to the walkways of reinforced walls, where Ekrund's artillery was deployed before the fall.
