The First Delve is Ekrund's greatest mine, containing rich veins of gold, tin, silver and coal. The first dwarves to find and mine these veins named the region Ekrund, or "winding stairs", after the great staircase hewn from the stone leading down from the mine's entrance into the mines themselves. This name was later given to the kingdom as a whole, for it were these mines which ensured the kingdom's autonomy from the old holds.
There are undoubtedly still large quantities of ore to be mined from the First Delve, for it was so rich a location that its veins had far from run dry when the final days came.
