Hendrik Groenedam

The elderly Hendrik Groenedam is a retired merchant and politician of Marienburg, who once served on the city's council as a representative of the Huis Groenedam, of which he was the patron. Back then he was known as an honest but shrewd businessman, who was responsible for the legislation of several laws which ensured the rise of several allied houses- and the fall of several others. Only few of Marienburg's current elite can say they did not profit from these laws, in some way.

These days, Hendrik spends his days in luxury- only the finest clothes, the most exquisite meals and prettiest of mistresses are good enough. He has long since stopped interfering with the matters of his House, and left the council of Marienburg in the care of younger minds. When the expedition to the Dragonbacks was announced, however, he could not pass up the opportunity for a last chance at glory. Without hesitation, he offered his services as advisor to the expedition's leadership.

Hendrik is well aware of his position; while he expects to be treated with the respect he is due, he is aware that he is but an advisor, and that ultimately each decision lies with those in charge. Nonetheless he was an uncanny negotiator in his day, and his knowledge of foreign customs might be enough to align the interests of the Dragonback Expansion Effort's disparate forces long enough for it to reach its goal.
