There have been many dwarven expeditions to reclaim Ekrund since its fall, and all of them have failed. Few, however, have suffered as horrible a fate as Magnir.
The story goes that Magnir was a young warrior, part of an expedition from Barak Varr, which intended but failed to reclaim Ekrund. Rather than end up on a goblin's spear or in a squig's maw, Magnir suffered a far worse fate- he was captured by the goblins. They held him prisoner for decades, subjecting him to their horrendous and gleeful torture each day. They cut off his beard and hair, covering his face with scar tissue that would never again grow hair. The dwarf's mind broke decades before he finally escaped.
Now Magnir roams the northern side of the mountains, ambushing goblins who venture too far from their tunnels. Those he captures suffer unspeakable agony for whatever few hours remain in their blessedly short lives.
Because of what the goblins did to him, Magnir feels he no longer has a place among the dwarves- in fact, he no longer counts himself as one of them. All that remains is insanity and hatred, all that drives him the lust for revenge. During his escape he has learned much of the mountains and their tunnels, knowledge he uses to pass throughout the goblin caves and strike where the greenskins are weakest.
Death may soon come for Magnir, but as long as he gets to take countless goblins with him, he will be content.
