This is the thread where you guys will create both your own characters, and the secondary characters. The process for how to make these characters is detailed in the "Rules" thread, and is really very simple once you've gone through it.

Simply make a post with your own character's sheet- if you need any help, please let me know!

Ok, so this post is where I'll put all of the information about secondary characters together. As described in the Rules thread, everyone takes a turn determining a certain aspect of a character. In the list below, I've filled in the name of whichever player gets to determine that aspect.

You don't need to wait for other players to fill out their part of the character- while it is recommended to start with the stereotype and then take turns working your way down the list together, it would probably take quite a bit of time if we were going to do that here on the forum! So go ahead and fill in whatever has your name behind it .

Winston
Stereotype: Brawny Jock
Stats:
- Brawn: Good
- Finesse: Poor
- Brains: Poor
- Spirit: Normal

Positive qualities
- Tough (Brawn)- For years Winston has been the center on his local 'Team Handball' team. For those who don't know what team handball is, it's like Rugby and arena football had a mean ugly baby, and that baby is Team Handball, as a result, Winston is able to shrug off physical attacks that would hamper a lesser man.

- Never say Die attitude (Spirit) - Years of team play has taught Winston that the game isn't over until it's over and this positive 'Rah-Rah' attitude has crept into most other areas of his life and Winston is able to 'cheer on' any players once a day that around him if they ever suffer from some type of panic or fear.

- Knowledge - Dwarven Runes (Brain) - Winston has always been interested in Dwarven culture and has learned their alphabet as well as how to read their language.

Negative quality: Gullible (Spirit). Winston believes just about anything anyone tells him. Why would they lie?
Alterations: -

Equipment: Outsized travel pack, mule tack, rock engraved with (non-magical) dwarf runes

Backstory: Winston was one of Ludwig's dorm mates and they also played Team Handball together. They worked well together on the court and the friendship spilled over to their everyday lives.

Winston, having nothing to do in the 'off-season' he decided to tag along with Ludwig

Jill
Stereotype: Sceptical Athlete
Stats:
- Brawn: Normal
- Finesse: Normal
- Brains: Normal
- Spirit: Poor

Positive qualities
- Fleet of foot (Brawn/Finesse): Jill is a runner on the college running team. Since Jill trains all year long she has the endurance of a long distance runner (brawn/endurance) and can outrun any 'normal' human over any long distance. Jill is also versed in the shorter lengths and can sprint past most normal people, as the old hunters saying goes, 'I don't need to be faster than the bear, just faster than you.' So using Finesse Jill would be able to outdistance any other player in the short term.

- All Feet Drive (Finesse): All that running through bad terrain has taught Jill how to move quickly over any type of terrain, be it mud, roots, snow, she can move at normal speed.

- Perceptive (Brains): When Ludwig met Jill it was friendship at first discussion. They found that they both enjoyed reads and used to trade any issues as well as discuss their different theories as the stories progressed. This careful reading of the reads has endowed Jill with a 'detectives mind' and has made her much more perceptive as she pays attention to such little details as peoples handedness, what they put in their drinks, or any other types of personality quirks that always seem to give the killer away in her favorite reads.

Negative quality: Tarlen

Alterations: Scream queen!
Equipment: Well-made shoes, extra waterskins, sheaf of yellowed agitator's flyers

Backstory: Jill had met Ludwig at the local corner Reads shop. They had come upon each other as they were both waiting for the final installment of the latest issue of 'The Gray Ghost.' It had left off with a murder, as usual, but the victim was the prime suspect and finally they were to be told who the real killer is. But the issue was delayed! Ludwig was having none of it and was explaining to the store clerk how sorry he would be if he could not go in the back and produce either the final issue or an explanation of how the victim was found in a locked room. At that point Jill had to interject with some of her theories of how the room could have been locked after the murder took place. They collaborated with each other for a while and compared theories until the store clerk shooed them away. They've been fast friends ever since.

Hamfast Thistlefoot
Stereotype: Cantankerous Drunk
Stats:
- Brawn: Normal
- Finesse: Poor
- Brain: Poor
- Spirit: Good
Positive quality: Ludwig
Negative quality: Drunkard (spirit). Hamfast will do anything for a drink, and will wander off or stop paying attention to try and find himself one. Not only that, but frequent drinking has left him a bit... slow.
Alterations: -
Equipment: Wine-skin, Pouch of tobacco, rolling papers, sulfur matches, small notebook that is half-full. Contains: Town gossip, Imagined Slights, Rumors, (In the margins: Arcane Drawings of unknown origin, letters in an unknown language.)
Backstory: Hamfast is the town drunk. Disliked by many, and pitied by some, Hamfast none the less is well known to the brothers Altbreit. Sometimes he helps the family with work, or otherwise just hangs around. He decided to accompany the brothers on this journey because he owes them money, and intends to claim this 'favour' as his payment.

Gerda Schuster
Stereotype: Adrenaline Junkie
Stats:
- Brawn: Normal
- Finesse: Good
- Brain: Poor
- Spirit: Poor

Positive quality: Tarlen
Negative quality: What A Rush (Spirit)! Gerda will run into danger at a moments notice just for the rush! Others might call it stupidly reckless, but for Gerda its the only way to live!
Alterations: Adrenaline Rush
Equipment: Rock Climbing gear, Winter coat, Winter outerwear, goggles, small animal snares, skis, large backpack, tent, bedroll, sleeping bag, camp cook set, camp utensils/dishes

Backstory: Ludwig

Johan Von Hapsburg
Stereotype: Local Hero
Stats: Tarlen
Positive quality: Ludwig
Negative quality: Spear
Alterations: Gankom
Equipment: Tarlen
Backstory: Ludwig

Okay here we go!

Primary Character;
Griff Sterz Altbreit

Backstory: Griff has long been the class clown, and when he grew to old for school he took his immaturity to the streets. He had enough money to live comfortably if not extravagantly, taking only the occasional job with the foresters or lumberjacks to make some extra cash. Thin, and far to immature to really take a job seriously, he’d really just do odd jobs around camp. The rough and tumble men seemed to have a greater appreciation for his jokes and pranks (unlike those stick in the mud townsfolks always complaining).

Griff has a… difficult relationship with his siblings. Most of the time he’s the one keeping everyone laughing and cheerful. Other times he can be just a bit to abrasive. No one would like living with a prankster for years, and that can build up more then a bit of tension.

Now he’s got a letter asking him to visit to uncle about the farm. He’s reluctant to take up the life of farmer (Doesn’t that sound boring?), but this is family and the least he can do is go and see how his uncle is doing. Right?

Stereotype: Merry Prankster

Stats:
Brawn: Poor
Finesse: Normal
Brain: Normal
Spirit: Good

Positive Qualities:
Fast Runner (Finesse) Because sometimes people don’t enjoy the pranks…
Prankster (Brain) Pranks take work and polish. Griff can often whip together little devices to surprise, find good hiding spots to jump out at people, etc
Morale Lifter (Spirit): The whole point of clowning about is to make people laugh and lift their spirits. It’s all about making people feel better.

Negative Quality:
Immature (spirit): Griff can’t take anything seriously. In many ways he’s still a kid at heart, and he will frequently act like it.

Alteration
I’m thinking upgrading Brain to good, but I’m on the fence.

Equipment
(Only two primary characters in the whole game get weapons right? I’ll leave them for others. Griff’s not a weapon guy.)
Satchel with small odds and ends.
Matches
Stale rations
Handful of small noisemakers/crackers

(Still working on it a bit, but let me know what you think.)

Secondary CHaracters

|I'm just going to throw out the stereotypes for the first 2 SC's first. I want to see what the others develop into before working on my part of them.

SC1: Winston
Stereotype: Brawny Jock

SC2: Jill

Griff looks good! The only thing I'm gonna point out is that, as one of the nephews, he should probably have the Altbreit last name... Other than that, it looks good to me!

I'll go and edit in the details you provided for the secondaries. And you're right about only two characters being allowed to have (poor) weapons in the whole game, except that includes both primaries and secondaries!

Yes have the proper last name would indeed make a lot of sense wouldn't it! I'd change it, but it seems I can't use the edit button. It tells me I don't have permission to do that.

Weird, you should be able to edit your own posts! For now I added the last name for you .

Phwoo! All right, character time! Holding off on adding bits to secondaries without stereotypes...

Primary Character: Klaus Altbreit

At heart, Klaus is a drifter, content to coast through life without much in the way of purpose. Had he been born to a family with fewer resources, he likely would have ended up as a vagabond long ago, taking to the road in an effort to keep himself going. As it was, however, he was able to while away his days in the dusty gloom of Karl's Ear, a local tavern patronized by political agitators, wandering dwarfs, out-of-work actors, and other assorted riffraff. At times, it seemed as if he was more at home there than...well, at home. His family was all well and good, but they couldn't hold his interest for long, and spending too much time lurking around the house tended to lead to ugly arguments with his father.

His uncle's offer has caught his attention mostly as a means of escape from Unkerdorf. In the back of his mind, he knows that Steingart is just as unlikely to keep his attention, and that he's not likely to keep any inherited holdings for long, not with the sort of freedom selling it could mean...but he intends to give it an honest try, should fortune turn his way. Family deserves that much, at least.

Stereotype: Aimless Dreamer

Stats:
Brawn: Normal
Finesse: Good
Brains: Normal
Spirit: Poor

Positive Qualities:

Dexterous (Finesse) - Years of card tricks and drinking games have left Klaus with a quick hand and well-trained fingers.

Never Forgets a Face (Brains) - It's not just the face. Klaus has a knack for remembering people by their mannerisms and posture, picking half-acquaintances with particularly interesting stories out of a crowd to introduce to his friends.

Brawler (Brawn) - Fighting might not be his specialty, but Klaus has been involved in more than one tavern dust-up. He knows how to improvise weapons out of just about anything that comes to hand, although he's used to using them on targets already swaying on their feet.

Good Speaker (Spirit) - He might not have the most commanding presence, but Klaus has heard plenty from people who do, and he's picked up a few bits and pieces about effective oratory along the way.

Negative Quality:

Unfocused (Brains) - Klaus is easily distractable and has a hard time concentrating on goals - both immediate and long-term. Should something else grab his attention, he is likely to refocus on that instead of the task at hand.

Alterations: Back for More, +2 Genre Points

Equipment: Faded (but prized!) travel-cloak and pack, set of crudely-made shepherd's pipes, well-thumbed copy of Detlef Sierck's To My Unchanging Lady, hand-carved pipe, travel rations.

Secondary Character: Hamfast Thistlefoot
Stereotype: Cantankerous Drunk
Alteration: None!

Secondary Character: Gerda Schuster
Stereotype: Adrenaline Junkie
Alteration: Scream Queen

Winston's Stats
Brawn: Good
Finesse: Poor
Brains: Poor
Spirit: Normal

Jill's Stats
Brawn: Normal
Finesse: Normal
Brains: Normal
Spirit: Poor
